Georgia Tech LB Philip Wheeler Scouting Report
Height: 6-2, Weight: 230, Draft Grade: 87

Strengths: Great athlete at the MIKE position…good timed speed and agility…solid open field tackler who can deliver the big hit…uses his agility and fluid hips to provide solid pass coverage…sideline to sideline speed…able to work through traffic to get to the ball…good pass rusher for a linebacker…versatile playing a number of positions…experienced leader…

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal size for a middle linebacker…overaggressive…relies on natural speed too often…does not have man to man cover skills…may not have the bulk and strength to play in the middle at the next level…may be a bit of a tweener at the NFL level…

Overall: Phillip Wheeler had a solid career at Georgia Tech, but he lacks the size to project as a successful middle linebacker at the next level. He projects best as a WIL backer in the NFL, but his lack of coverage skills probably means he can not play in a Cover 2 type defense. Still, a player of Wheeler’s production and overall athleticism should have a role in the NFL.
