Illinois CB Vontae Davis Scouting Report
Height: 6-0, Weight: 204

Strengths: Tremendous natural athlete...able to leap and reach the ball at the highest point...ideal NFL frame with good bulk...very strong for his size...willing in run support...good blitzer for a corner...elite long speed...uses his hands well and not afraid of press coverage...

Weaknesses: Very inconsistent effort at Illinois, was benched at times...more of a drag down tackler, not a wrap up player...tries to go for the big hit too often...seemed lost in coverage at times...did not improve as a junior...needs to stop gambling...would like to see more turnovers...ball skills and awareness are just average.

Overall: There is no doubt that Vontae Davis is one of the most physically gifted corners in the draft, but his inconsistent effort at Illinois is cause for concern. Davis is going to need to play with more discipline at the NFL level. At times in the Big 10, he seemed to get lost on the field and does not make the plays you would think a player with his athelicism and aggressive nature would make. Davis represents a classic high risk, high reward player. He will need to show teams that he is committed to the NFL.
