Strengths: Pretty good athlete…has good bulk…sideline to sideline range…terrific instincts and is rarely fooled…good closing burst…effective in coverage…good wrapup tackler…understands the game and reacts well to plays…productive college player…offers some versatility as a pro…is going to contribute as a special teamer… Weaknesses: Not a physically imposing player…not a big hitter…is going to struggle to shed blocks…does not offer much as a blitzer or in coverage…has dealt with some knee and ankle injuries in the past…struggled a bit in 2008…needs to add some bulk and improve his strength at the point of attack…
Overall: Freeman was a highly touted recruit who thought about entering the draft after his junior year and then saw his senior year hampered by a series of ankle injuries. He is a good tackler with great instincts, but lacks the explosion and playmaking ability to be big time impact player. He projects best on the weakside in a 4-3 scheme, where his tackle ability and awareness should make him an NFL starter, though he is unlikely to become a star. |
